Rolex & Patek Collection Reduction; Lange's Steel Sports Watch; Tim At Dubai Watch Week; Watches
Watches Tonight with Tim Mosso returns with YouTube’s top live discussion and opinion forum for luxury watch buyers, watch collectors, and watch enthusiasts. This evening, we’re discussing rumors of a Patek Philippe Nautilus market shift, A Lange & Sohne’s rumored steel sports watch, why Ulysse Nardin of Le Locle doesn’t get Jaeger LeCoultre-levels of respect, and advice for a watch collector who wants to pare down his collection of Rolex watches, Omega watches, and Patek Philippe. All of this and watch collector wrist shots will feature this evening on Watches Tonight!
Selling watches or trading from a sizable watch collection can be both liberating and excruciating. Regular viewer Luis asks for Tim’s advice in selling the non-essential wristwatches from his collection of Patek, Rolex, and Omega watches. Although Tim is partial to watches like the Rolex Submariner Date, Patek Philippe Aquanaut and Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, these watches find themselves surplus in light of Luis’ desire to reduce his holdings to 3-5 “keepers.”
Tim offers advice on which watches to sell (e.g., 5167A, Rolex 116610LN, Omega Speedmaster Trilogy 60th Anniversary) and which watches to keep (Rolex Submariner Hulk, Rolex Daytona 116500LN, Nautilus 5711/1A).
Watch industry rumors are flying fast as the 2020 model year approaches. And while summer tends to be the doldrums for the watch business, Tim has heard major news concerning Patek Philippe and A Lange & Sohne. Patek’s Nautilus, which has witnessed a meteoric spike in value over the past 36 months, may have met the limit of its speculative value on secondary markets. Moreover, Tim has heard that new Nautilus watches from Patek may be more plentiful for 2020 than in previous years. Lange isn’t known for sports watches like the 5711, but that might be about to change. According to Tim’s sources, the A Lange & Sohne sports watch is happening, and stainless steel will be offered as a case material.
Speculation aside, one fact is indisputable; Tim Mosso will be at Dubai Watch Week 2019 in November. The fourth annual Dubai watch fair will feature Watchbox’s Media Director and Watch Specialist. Tim looks forward to meeting his Middle-East regional viewers, talking watches, and thanking his viewers for their support of this channel.
Finally, Tim answers a viewer’s question about the reputation of Ulysse Nardin or Le Locle, Switzerland. Given landmark watches including the Sonata, the Freak, Ludwig Oechslin’s Trilogy of Time, and the GMT +/- Perpetual series, why isn’t UN regarded more highly? The answer is complicated, but it encompasses UN’s outré design tendencies, western watch collector perception that Ulysse Nardin catered excessively to the Russian market in the 2000s, and simple over-production of watches.
